Setting Up Your eBay Seller Account
Register as an eBay seller to list through Evriwhere
11 min read · Updated 2 March 2026
If you've connected your eBay account to Evriwhere but see a screen titled "Your eBay Account Needs Setting Up", it means your eBay account is registered as a buyer but hasn't been set up for selling. eBay requires a separate seller registration before you can list items — this applies whether you're listing through the eBay app, the eBay website, or a third-party tool like Evriwhere.
This guide walks you through the full eBay seller registration process so you can start crosslisting to eBay alongside Depop and Vinted.
Why This Happens
This is an eBay requirement, not an Evriwhere issue
When you create an eBay account, it's initially set up for buying only. To list items for sale, eBay requires you to complete their seller registration, which includes providing personal details, payment information, and agreeing to eBay's seller policies. Evriwhere detects this and shows you the setup instructions.
eBay's seller registration ensures that:
- You can receive payments from buyers
- eBay can verify your identity for trust and safety
- You've agreed to eBay's seller terms and conditions
- You have a valid payment method for eBay seller fees
- Your account is ready to handle transactions
When You'll See This Screen
The "Your eBay Account Needs Setting Up" sheet (the EbaySellerSetupSheet) appears in Evriwhere when:
- You've connected your eBay account via OAuth2 (your account is linked)
- But Evriwhere detects that your eBay account doesn't have seller privileges
- You try to create a listing that includes eBay, or when the connection completes and the seller status check fails
The sheet provides step-by-step instructions for completing seller registration in the eBay app. This process cannot be completed within Evriwhere — you'll need to switch to the official eBay app.
What You'll Need
Before starting the eBay seller registration, make sure you have:
- The eBay app installed on your iPhone (download from the App Store if needed)
- Your eBay account logged in within the eBay app — use the same account you connected to Evriwhere
- Personal details — Full name, address, date of birth
- Payment information — A bank account or card for receiving payments and paying eBay seller fees
- A few minutes — The registration process typically takes 5-10 minutes
Setting Up Your eBay Seller Account Step by Step
Follow these steps carefully in the eBay app (not Evriwhere):
Open the eBay App
Leave Evriwhere and open the eBay app on your iPhone. If you don't have it installed, download it from the App Store first.
Make sure you're logged in to the same eBay account that you connected to Evriwhere. If you're not sure which account is connected, check Evriwhere's Settings > Linked Accounts — the eBay card shows the username of your connected account.
Go to Selling
In the eBay app, tap "Selling" in the bottom navigation bar. This is the tab dedicated to eBay's selling features.
If you haven't registered as a seller before, this section may show a welcome screen, a prompt to start selling, or a simplified view encouraging you to list your first item.
If you don't see a "Selling" tab in the bottom navigation, look for a "Sell" button or tap the "My eBay" tab and look for a selling option there. eBay's interface can vary slightly depending on your region and app version.
Tap 'Sell for Free'
On the Selling page, look for and tap the "Sell for free" button or link. This is eBay's entry point for new sellers and launches the seller registration process.
The button text may vary depending on your region and any current eBay promotions. You might see:
- "Sell for free" — The most common label
- "Start selling" — An alternative label
- "List an item" — eBay may prompt you to list an item, which triggers seller registration if you haven't done it yet
Tap whichever option is available to begin the registration flow.
Fill in Your Details
eBay will now guide you through a registration form asking for your personal and payment details. Complete all required fields:
Personal information:
- Full legal name — As it appears on your ID
- Address — Your current residential address, including postcode
- Phone number — A number where eBay can contact you for verification
- Date of birth — For identity verification purposes
Payment information:
- Bank account details — Sort code and account number (UK) or equivalent for your region. This is where eBay will deposit your earnings
- Payment method for fees — eBay charges seller fees; you'll need to provide a payment method to cover these (often the same bank account)
Fill in each field carefully and accurately. Incorrect information can cause delays or issues with your seller registration.
Tap Continue, Next, or Submit to progress through each section.
Complete the 'Almost There' Screen
After filling in the initial details, eBay typically shows an "Almost there" screen or a similar confirmation step. This is the final stage of the registration where eBay may ask for:
- Additional personal information — Any remaining details not covered in the previous step
- Identity verification — eBay may ask you to verify your identity using a photo ID or other documentation
- Terms and conditions — Review and accept eBay's seller terms, policies, and fee structure
- Final confirmation — Confirm that all your details are correct
Read through everything carefully, fill in any remaining fields, and tap Confirm, Agree, or Finish to complete the registration.
Once you see a confirmation screen or are taken to the selling dashboard, your eBay seller registration is complete.
Return to Evriwhere
With your eBay seller registration complete, switch back to the Evriwhere app. You're now ready to list items on eBay through Evriwhere.
To post your listing:
- Open the listing that triggered the "Your eBay Account Needs Setting Up" sheet
- Remove the eBay listing — Tap the eBay box to delete the failed posting
- Add eBay again — Re-select eBay as a target platform
- Post the listing — Submit the listing, which should now go through successfully
Alternatively, create a new listing and include eBay as one of the target platforms.
Important: Re-post your listing
After completing setup in the eBay app, return to Evriwhere. You'll need to delete the listing that triggered the setup screen (tap the eBay box to remove it) and post it again. This ensures Evriwhere creates the listing with your now-active eBay seller account.
Troubleshooting
The setup sheet keeps appearing after registering as a seller
If you've completed eBay's seller registration but still see the "Your eBay Account Needs Setting Up" screen in Evriwhere:
- Make sure registration is fully complete — Go back to the eBay app, navigate to the Selling tab, and check that you have full access to selling features. Try listing a test item directly in the eBay app to verify
- Reconnect your eBay account — In Evriwhere, go to Settings > eBay, tap the ellipsis menu, and tap Remove Account. Then reconnect from Settings > Linked Accounts. This refreshes the OAuth2 connection and pulls your updated seller status
- Wait a few minutes — eBay's systems may take a short time to fully activate your seller status after registration
- Delete and re-post the listing — Make sure you've removed the old eBay listing attempt and created a fresh one
- Check your email — eBay may have sent you an email asking for additional verification or confirmation
I can't find the "Selling" tab in the eBay app
eBay's app layout can vary by region and version:
- Update the eBay app — Make sure you have the latest version from the App Store
- Check "My eBay" — The selling option may be under the My eBay section instead of a separate tab
- Look for a "Sell" button — Some versions show a floating "Sell" or "+" button on the home screen
- Search eBay help — Search for "how to start selling" in eBay's in-app help
I can't find the "Sell for free" button
The exact wording depends on your region and eBay's current promotions:
- Look for alternatives — "Start selling", "List an item", "Sell something", or a "+" button
- Try listing any item — Starting the process of listing any item will trigger seller registration if you haven't completed it
- Use eBay's website — If the app isn't showing the option, try going to ebay.co.uk in your browser, sign in, and look for selling options there
The "Almost there" screen doesn't appear
Not all accounts go through the same registration flow. If you didn't see an "Almost there" screen:
- Check if registration completed — Try listing a test item in the eBay app. If it works, you're all set
- Look for emails from eBay — eBay may have sent further instructions to your email
- Check the eBay app notifications — There may be in-app notifications asking you to complete additional steps
eBay rejected my seller registration
If eBay declined your seller registration:
- Check the rejection reason — eBay should provide details on why the registration was rejected
- Verify your information — Make sure all personal details are accurate and match your ID
- Check your eBay account status — Your account must be in good standing with no restrictions or suspensions
- Contact eBay support — Seller registration issues need to be resolved directly with eBay's customer service
Evriwhere cannot complete eBay seller registration for you
eBay's seller registration involves providing sensitive personal and financial information directly to eBay. This process is handled entirely by eBay and must be completed in the eBay app or website. Evriwhere has no control over the registration process or approval.
I was asked for identity verification
eBay may require identity verification as part of the seller registration:
- Photo ID — You may be asked to upload a photo of a government-issued ID (passport, driving licence, national ID card)
- Selfie verification — eBay may ask you to take a selfie to match against your ID photo
- Address verification — You may need to verify your address with a utility bill or bank statement
This is standard eBay procedure for new sellers and helps protect both buyers and sellers on the platform.
Common Questions
Do I need to pay to register as an eBay seller?
No, registering as an eBay seller is free. However, eBay charges fees when you sell items — typically a percentage of the final sale price. eBay often gives new sellers a number of free listings per month. You'll see the fee structure during registration.
Can I use a business account?
Yes, eBay supports both personal and business seller accounts. If you're selling as a business, you can set this up during the registration process. Business accounts may require additional information like a business name and registration number.
Do I need to set up shipping before listing through Evriwhere?
eBay's seller registration may include basic shipping setup. However, when you list through Evriwhere, you can configure shipping details as part of the listing creation process. Evriwhere handles the eBay-specific shipping options for you.
I already sell on eBay. Why am I seeing this?
If you're an existing eBay seller and seeing this screen, it could be because:
- You connected a different eBay account — Check that the account linked in Evriwhere is your seller account, not a separate buyer account
- eBay updated their requirements — eBay occasionally requires additional verification from sellers
- OAuth permissions issue — Try removing and reconnecting your eBay account in Evriwhere via Settings > eBay > Remove Account
- Temporary eBay issue — Wait a few minutes and try again; eBay's seller verification API may be experiencing a temporary problem
Can I skip eBay and just list on Depop and Vinted?
Absolutely. If you don't want to set up an eBay seller account right now, simply deselect eBay when creating listings in Evriwhere. Your items will be posted to Depop and Vinted only. You can add eBay later once your seller account is set up.
Summary
Setting up your eBay seller account is a one-time process completed in the eBay app. Here's the quick version:
- Open the eBay app and go to the Selling tab
- Tap "Sell for free" to start registration
- Fill in your personal and payment details
- Complete the "Almost there" screen with any remaining information
- Return to Evriwhere, delete the old listing, and post it again
Once your seller registration is complete, you'll never see the setup screen again, and all future eBay listings will work seamlessly through Evriwhere.
